Species distribution map

Range & Habitat:

Found locally in the Valley & Ridge and Highlands regions, usually along medium-sized rivers and streams.

Description:

Males have clear wings with black tips.  Caution, some elderly female Ebony Jewelwings show a similar wing pattern, but are duller.

Females are similar but paler.

The Sparkling Jewelwing of the Pine Barrens is quite similar but their ranges are not known to overlap.

 

Conservation Status:

State: S2 - Imperiled in New Jersey

Global: G5 - Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
