  Allegheny River Cruiser

Range & Habitat:

Streams and rivers on the coastal plain, especially in the core Pine Barrens.

Found along large streams and rivers, sometimes sympatrically with the southern form of Illinois River Cruiser.

Description:

Restricted yellow spots on the abdomen.  It is superficially very similar to the "Northern" Illinois River Cruiser, differing in minor details.  It does not overlap with that form in New Jersey.  The "Southern" Illinois River Cruiser is found in the same range, but is much brighter.  More study is needed of this genus.

 

Conservation Status:

State: S1S2 - Imperiled to critically imperiled in New Jersey

Global: G4 - Apparently secure globally
