  "Georgia" Swift River Cruiser
            Macromia illinoiensis georgina (Selys, 1878)

Range & Habitat:

The southern race of Illinois River Cruiser, it replaces it in the coastal plain.  Intergrades occur in the overlap zone, especially Hunterdon and Somerset counties.

Patrols along large streams and rivers.

Description:

Really bright, with prominent yellow on abdominal segments 1-8.  For comparison, see "Northern" Illinois River CruiserCaution: intergrades do occur, especially from Hunterdon & Mercer through Monmouth Counties.  Not all can be identified as to type.  The sympatric Allegheny River Cruiser is duller, resembling the northern form.  More study is needed in this complex.

State: S4 - Apparently secure in New Jersey
