  Stream Cruiser
            Didymops transversa (Say, 1839)

Range & Habitat:

Found throughout most of the state.  Not found (or not recorded yet?) in Cape May and Atlantic counties.

Patrols slow streams, but also (maybe even more commonly) is seen flying near the shore of lakes and ponds; why ain't it called Pond Cruiser?

Description:

Brown with a single whitish thoracic stripe and whitish abdominal markings.  Males have a clubbed tail and white claspers but unlike the pond clubtails which are often found nearby, it is brown and seldom perches on the shoreline.

 

Conservation Status:

State: S5 - Demonstrably secure in the state

Global: G5 - Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
