  Skimming Bluet
            Enallagma geminatum Kellicott, 1895

Range & Habitat:

Found throughout the state.

Most common on ponds and lakes with emergent vegetation.  It frequently perches on exposed lily pads and the like.

Description:

Small, the abdomen is mostly black with a blue tip.  The postocular spots are teardrop shaped.  Lilypad Forktail has larger postocular spots, usually shows black laterally on S8&9 and perches with the tip of the abdomen touching the ground.  Slender Bluet has less black on the thorax and is slightly larger. Other "black abdomen" Bluets are larger and usually lack the black marking on S2

 

Conservation Status:

State: S5 - Demonstrably secure in the state

Global: G5 - Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
