Range & Habitat:

Found throughout most of the state, usually along streams and rivers.

Description:

Most males in New Jersey are recognized by their solid blue thorax, while a few may show a single black lateral stripe.

Females range from blue like the males through various shades of muted gray or brown.

Young and female Powdered Dancers before they become pruinose may appear almost identical to Blue-fronted Dancer. Click here for a comparison of the females.

Dancers commonly perch on the ground.

 

Conservation Status:

State: S5 - Demonstrably secure in the state

Global: G5 - Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
