Range & Habitat:

Found throughout the state and should be looked for in the few counties where it has not been recorded.

Patrols from dawn to dusk at shoulder height along ponds lakes and rivers; frequently forms feeding swarms up to and above treetop.

Description:

A large elegant Baskettail, usually with three spots in each wing.  Can be confused with large Emeralds if the wing spots are not seen.  Female and young Twelve-spotted Skimmer have a similar wing pattern but are perchers with different behavior.

 

Conservation Status:

State: S5 - Demonstrably secure in the state

Global: G5 - Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
