  Banded Pennant
            Celithemis fasciata Kirby, 1889

Range & Habitat:

Reported from the coastal plain and from the northern tier of counties.

Found near permanent lakes and ponds.  In the north at least, generally frequents larger lakes than other pennants.  Ok, maybe it doesn't.

Description:

Wings are marked with a black tip, a black spot on the leading edge near the nodus and a variable black spot at the base of the wing.  The basal spot tends to be larger in southern individuals.

Females are browner, with a row of narrow yellow triangles on the top of the abdomen.  See Calico Pennant.

 

Conservation Status:

State: S4 - Apparently secure in New Jersey

Global: G5 - Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
