  Frequently Asked Questions

It occurred to us that all web sites have one, so we figured we better have one, too.  The following are the questions we are asked most often in the field.

Q: Whatcha doin'?
A: Catching dragonflies.

Q: What ya gonna do with them?
A: Eat them.

Q: Are you surveying for West Nile mosquitoes?
A: No, if I was I'd be looking in your birdbath.

Q: Do dragonflies bite?
A: YES! They can take huge chunks of flesh out of your body, causing incredible pain and agony.

Q: Really?
A: No, just kidding, but it makes odonatology sound more exciting if we say they are dangerous.  Actually, if you are dumb enough to stick your finger in their mouth, they'll bite it and it will pinch.

Q: Do they sting?
A: Yup! and they fly into your hair, too.  No, sorry, that's bats.

Q: Really?
A: No, see above.
